Originally constructed in 1894 by Alonzo Ward, the Alonzo Ward Hotel has been an integral part of the Aberdeen community for over a century. After enduring a devastating fire, Mr. Ward made the resolute decision to rebuild. In 1928, he introduced the new Ward Hotel, establishing it as South Dakota’s premier luxury regional hotel. The grand establishment boasted 90 opulent hotel rooms, a magnificent ballroom, a restaurant, a coffee shop, and commercial spaces.
In recent decades the Alonzo Ward Hotel played host to residents only and no hotel bookings were possible. However, in the summer of 2022, as new owners of the Alonzo Ward Hotel & Plaza, we embarked on an ambitious remodel. Our vision was to honor the hotel’s rich history while creating a boutique hotel experience that would captivate our guests. The meticulous renovation process sought to preserve the building’s original character while introducing contemporary elements that meet the expectations of modern travelers.
Today, we proudly present our newly transformed establishment. The Alonzo Ward Hotel & Plaza offers 18 elegantly appointed guest rooms, each with a sense of luxury and sophistication.
